Scheduled Mowing
  
Proper mowing practices keep your lawn healthy. Grasses, like most plants, branch out

after clipping off the growing points and become more dense. This in turn creates

thousands of individual grass plants turning them into a tightly woven lawn. But mowing

alone isn't what makes a lawn look good. Mowing frequency and cut height determine

how healthy and attractive your lawn looks.

Aeration is one of the most important cultural practices available for your
lawn. Core aeration is the process of pulling out a plug of grass and soil approximately
one half inch wide and three inches long. Aeration helps control thatch, improves the soil
structure, helps create growth pockets for new roots, and opens the way for water and
fertilizer to reach the root zone of your lawn.

Annual or semi-annual aeration is advised for all lawns on heavy clay soils, those with a
thatch buildup, and any lawn that needs to be "thickened up."

Over-Seeding

The practice of over-seeding lawns as part of a regular maintenance has been around
for years. Golf courses have been doing it for hundreds of years as it is an important
step in maintaining quality turf. Over-seeding is best done in combination with
aeration and detaching.
Fertilizer

To keep your lawn green, growing and looking its best, a consistent program of
fertilization is essential. Regular fertilization will lead to a thicker, healthier lawn that
reduces erosion, filters pollutants and provides natural cooling. Your lawn will be less
likely to suffer from weed, insect and disease problems when it's fertilized on a regular
